Hi Everyone ) Well, in this post I'll share about my experience about botfly larvae symptoms and treatment.
Symptoms - bumps on your body; random sharp pain like from a needle; liquid from a little hole on top of the bump; symptoms doesn't go away within three weeks.
Treatment - To go to emergency and to make ultrasound for sure to be sure.
In case there is something inside, just simple surgery removal and it's over.
So, I got this "passenger" in my body in Ecuador. But, you can get it in any part of Latin America. I don't know exactly at want place I got it - it could be the Amazon Rainforest, or Galapagos.
So, after a week I came back home, I notice three bumps on my back. Also I sometimes I had a sharp short pain, like from a needle inside that bumps. At first I didn't paid attention to them, I thought I could be a grown hair, or just a something like that.
I even tried to squeeze them out... and, actually, did it successfully with a one of them. So, I thought it was a pimple. I was wrong.
I had the rest two in my back for two more weeks. All this time sometimes I had the same sharp short pain, and some liquid started to leak from the little hole in the bump.
So, after three weeks in total symptoms didn't go away. I decided to go to emergency. And, here there is interesting part begins - doctors just didn't know about that can happen at all. In total I met 4 doctors, and one even told me that impossible that larvae would survive inside my body.
Okay, I say everything step by step here:
At first I went to walk in clinic and the doctor there told me right away to go to emergency, because he had no idea about this stuff at all.
In emergency first doctor maybe new something about it, so he did a little cut on a bump, but didn't find anything, so he decided that was some allergy and prescribed me medications from allergy. When I came home, I took a band aid off and notice in the mirror that something coming in and out from the cut. That was larvae. So I went to emergency again. The third doctor (it was another one already) told me that it is impossible to have something in my body at all, and the bumps are some skin issues. I told him what I saw, but he didn't believe me. So he send me to dermatology clinic. In the clinic they told me they don't work with this kind of stuff, so they send me back to emergency.
I came back to emergency, and met the fort doctor already. He told me I will need to meet a plastics surgent and for that I will need to wait a week.
And here, I ASKED TO MAKE ULTRASOUND.... THAT SHOULD BE DONE AT THE BEGINING, WHEN I CAME TO EMERGENCY!!!
They made ultrasound and finally found the larvae inside my body in both bumps.
Also they found some sacks around larvae. Well, the surgent removed them too, as another doctor told me later, it was just body protection - my organism created that "sacks" around larvae to protect itself....
Anyway, when the problem was finally found, I just waited for a surgent a bit and two larvae with "sacks" were removed at the place pretty fast.
The removing was pretty simple, fast and without any pain. I got just local anesthetic. So I even filmed the procedure )) Yes, I got a stiches after, and scars forever will stay on my back, but it could be much worse...
No others problem with my health I didn't have during three weeks period before removal and after.
